Sharon Lewis’ work as an artist has made a significant and unique mark in the mediums of television, film, literature, theatre and digital culture. She is a published author and playwright, director, actor & TV host. In 2003, Sharon was voted as one of the “Top Ten Most Powerful Women in Canada” by Elle magazine.
Sharon has been nominated for two television hosting awards Gemini & a LeoHer short film, Chains, recently premiered at the prestigious American Black Film Festival (ABFF) in 2009, has won awards around the globe, and aired on HBO. While her leading acting role in the film, Rude, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Sharon has been nominated for two television hosting awards (Gemini & Leo) and for her work on ZeD TV, a groundbreaking CBC television arts show with an interactive web component. And her hosting work on counterSpin, a primetime, live political debating show on CBC television, garnered the highest ratings in the history of the program. Sharon has put her focus on feature film-writing and directing, and is sought-after to put her directing imprint on television.
At present, she has optioned the award-winning Caribbean-Canadian sci-fi novel Brown Girl in the Ring and has received significant national and provincial financial support to write the feature screenplay. She has also recently optioned a sci-fi thriller entitled E-ville with Darren Portelli (Spiral Entertainment Ltd.). Her psychological thriller, Halfway Point, is in development with Darren Portelli and David Miller (Agency 71 Productions Inc.), and she will be writing for it and is slated to direct upon production.
The Book of Negroes by: Lawrence Hill. I wanted to see what this author could do with a slave narrative that is dramatic and innovative.
