Deputy Chief Peter Sloly is in his 23rd year with the Toronto Police Service. Presently, he is in charge of Executive Command, which has over 400 civilian and uniform staff along with an operating budget of over $31 million. Executive Command is comprised of 4 pillars and 9 business units which include; Professional Standards Investigative Unit, Professional Standard Risk Management Unit, Legal Services, Corporate Communications, Corporate Planning, Records Management, Property & Evidence Management Unit, Audit & Quality Assurance and the Video Services Unit.
Peter is also an adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph-Humberand Ryerson University, and a guest lecturer at the Ontario Police College.
Background: Peter was in charge of the Operational Services pillar with 1890 staff and an operating budget of $162 million which included the following units: Emergency Task Force, Traffic Services, Marine Unit, Mounted & Police Dog Services, Communication Services, Court Services, Parking Enforcement Unit, Public Safety & Emergency Management, Central Paid Duty Office and the Special Constables Program. He oversaw the Staff Planning & Community Mobilization pillar, which included the following units: Employment, Training & Education, Staff Planning, Diversity Management and Community Mobilization. He has also been the Unit Commander of 55 Division, 53 Division and Corporate Communications; was a senior manager at 31 Division, 52 Division and Duty Operations; and has worked in Community Response, Major Crime, Youth Bureau and Public Order. Peter Sloly participated in the following international policing programs; Pearls in Policing, Lithuania Development Mission and the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo where he was a Command Staff Officer and the Canadian Contingent Commander.
Other: Prior to his policing career, Peter played professional soccer with the Toronto Blizzard and North York Rockets; was a member of the Canadian National Soccer Team; participated in over 30 international competitions; and played in the World Youth Cup in the former USSR (1985). He also authored articles for several police and justice magazines on community mobilization, crime prevention and emergency management.
Affiliations: He is a member of the Police Executive Research Foundation, the Canadian Police College Advisory Board, Ontario Association of Chief’s of Police, Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, Police Executive Research Forum, TPS Military Veterans Association, and the Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers.
