Manager, Safety Systems, AMEC NSS Limited, Toronto, ON. Born: Nigeria.
Dr. Sylvester Osamusali is Manager of Safety Systems at AMEC NSS Ltd. He has over 20 years experience in Research, Design and Safety Analysis of Nuclear Reactors.
At AMEC NSS and its predecessor companies (Ontario Hydro and Ontario Power Generation), Dr. Osamusali has performed work on thermal hydraulic analysis of postulated loss of coolant, loss of flow, and loss of regulation events in CANDU reactors using advanced computer codes; developed advanced methods and techniques for thermal hydraulic analysis of reactor heat transport system and components to improve code predictions; conducted thermal hydraulic analysis in support of safe operation of the reactors; provided responses to technical comments by Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC); and performed licensing work on the Advanced CANDU Reactor (ACR) for the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).
Works: Over 20 technical papers in “two-phase flow and nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics”, published and presented. Some of his papers were found in proceedings from conferences on Simulation Methods in Nuclear Engineering, Canadian Nuclear Society, American Nuclear Society, Heat and Technology Journal, American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE) Journal.
Education: Degrees include Ph. D, Nuclear Engineering (1988); M. Eng, Engineering Physics, McMaster University (1985); B. Sc, Engineering Physics, University of Ife, Nigeria (1981). Academic awards include National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Canada post-doctoral research fellowship (1988-1990); McMaster University Departmental Scholarship (1985-1988); University of Ife (Nigeria) post-graduate scholarship (1983-1985); Best Graduating Nuclear Engineering Student Prize, University of Ife, Nigeria (1981).
Honours: Include Ontario Power Generation’s Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO) Recognition Award; Planet Africa Science and Technology Award (2007).
