Hameed Shaqq

Steel Pan Musician / Composer, The Pan Piper, Toronto, ON. Born: Arima, Trinidad.

Hameed Shaqq (aka) The Pan Piper, is an innovative, versatile, and talented steel pan musician and composer whose repertoire includes Jazz, Blues, Classical, Pop, Calypso, along with Liturgical music. He works primarily as a solo pan artist, often backed up by his own drum machine and bass programming, and MIDI tracks. As well, his group, The Pan Piperz Ensemble incorporates a variety of string, wind, and percussion instruments.

Hameed hails from Trinidad and Tobago, where he was trained by steel pan veterans and played in numerous bands, including the award-winning Harmonites, Silver Stars, and Invaders. The four-time champion Harmonites toured Europe, thrilling audiences at events such as the World Fair in Zurich and the Music Festival of Spain. Hameed toured various caribbean countries including Barbados and Dominican Republic, and also performed, representing Canada, with the Ontario All-Stars Steelband at the 2004 and 2005 Chinese New Year International Parade in Hong Kong. He also performed at Ontario’s House in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Hameed has produced two CD’s, Planet Pan a 16-track recordings with hits from Bob Marley, the Beatles, Eagles, Zeplin, Charlie Parker, Mozart and more. The second, a live recording, Pan for the People, was recorded by CBC’s Radio Global Village, and broadcast to 111 countries the world over.
